MacDonald & Christopher Win Lincoln Electric/Airgas Track Championships

Loudon, NH — Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Mass. has won the 2008 Camping World Series East Lincoln Electric/Airgas Track Championship at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 71 Grimm Construction Inc. Chevrolet, Eddie won the Heluva Good! 125 in June and completed his “sweep” by winning the second Heluva Good! 125 in September. This is MacDonald’s first Lincoln Electric/Airgas Track Championship.

Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn. has won his third Lincoln Electric/Airgas Track Championship at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 36 Al-Lee Installations Chevrolet, Ted was scored second in a photo finish at the New England 100 in June and won the “two-segment” New Hampshire 100 in September. Christopher went on to win the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship. He has also won the Lincoln Electric/Airgas Track Championship at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in 2004 and 2005.

Airgas signs on with 'Camo for a Cause' initiative

St. Louis, Mo. (Sept. 10, 2008) - From October 1 until December 31, Thermadyne will offer special camouflage color patterns on its Thermal Dynamics CUTMASTER True Series 39, 52 and 89 plasma cutting machines.

Mad Money Recap Executive Decision: Airgas CEO Peter McCausland

Airgas might an example of a classic “broken stock, not broken company” play.

The company beat earnings estimates Friday by 3 cents per share, reporting higher margins and an increase in sales growth. Airgas [ARG 32.38 /-0.02/(-0.06%)] also raised its quarterly dividend to 16 cents a share and maintained its full year outlook. How many other cyclical companies are doing that?

Airgas Increases Quarterly Dividend by 33%

RADNOR, PA – October 23, 2008 -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE: ARG) today announced that the Board of Directors increased the quarterly cash dividend on the company’s common stock to $0.16 per share from $0.12. The dividend will be payable December 31, 2008 to shareholders of record as of December 15, 2008.

Airgas Reports Record Second Quarter EPS of $0.86

RADNOR, PA – October 23, 2008 -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE: ARG), the largest U.S. distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases, and welding, safety and related products, today reported record earnings and strong growth in sales and operating income for its second quarter ended September 30, 2008.

Quarterly net earnings grew 44% to $72.8 million, or $0.86 per diluted share, compared to $50.6 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, in the prior year. The prior year quarter included $0.04 per diluted share of integration expense primarily associated with the June 30, 2007 acquisition of Linde’s U.S. packaged gas business, and a one-time non-cash charge of $0.03 per diluted share related to the conversion of National Welders Supply Company from a joint venture to a wholly owned subsidiary.

Airgas Receives Supplier Award and Two-Year Contract Extension from Boeing

RADNOR, PA -- October 20, 2008 -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE: ARG) today announced that it had received a two-year extension of its contract with the Boeing Company (NYSE: BA), representing $16.5 million of revenue in the first year. Airgas Safety is the primary provider of safety and industrial hygiene products for Boeing.

Earlier this year, Boeing awarded Airgas Safety its Boeing Performance Excellence Award. Out of approximately 10,000 Boeing worldwide suppliers, about 250 companies receive a silver or gold level performance award from Boeing. As one of only 48 suppliers to win the gold distinction, Airgas Safety performed in the 99.99 percentile of Boeing's 8,000-plus MRO suppliers.

Schartner Ends Season with a Strong Third Friday at Cayuga County

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. -- Andrew Schartner returned to Upstate New York from his UNC-Charlotte campus home over the weekend to compete in his final ESDCA mod-lite event of the season Friday night at Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Schartner won his heat race and started second in the special Super DIRT Week Open Wheels at the ’Port 25-lap feature. He led over half of the race until a fierce three-car battle for the lead ensued between him, Clayton Brewer and Doug Williams. The trio raced wheel to wheel for the last half of the race, with Schartner ending up third.

Schartner is a member of the Team Full Throttle Driver Development Program and is represented by Driver Development Services, Inc., Charlotte, N.C. His marketing partners are Arnold’s Family Restaurant, Airgas, BBD Coaters, SAVES Auto Body Supply, and Fastline Performance.

Engineering firm creates program to prevent electrical explosions

Arc flash is largely unknown by those without backgrounds in electrical engineering, but the phenomenon is deadly enough that a Suwanee company is unveiling a new program to help companies prevent such deadly electrical accidents.

"In the U.S. each day, five to 10 people are severely injured and one to two killed by arc flash electrical explosions," says Mark Tibbetts, president and general manager of M.C. Dean, Inc. Atlanta.

Now M.C. Dean is helping other companies institute a rigorous plan to prevent arc flash. The goal is help companies incorporate arc flash safety into their corporate cultures.

Tibbetts says the program, which was just formed this summer, has already attracted Lawrenceville-based manufacturer Wika Instruments and industrial gas distributor Airgas.

Steve Azar to host and perform benefit concert during Campbell Chevrolet Celebrity Golf Classic Oct. 21

Singer-songwriter Steve Azar will host and perform at the concert that is part of the two-day golf tournament, also hosted by PGA champion John Daly. Proceeds from both events will benefit various autism charities in the central and south-central regions of Kentucky.

In addition to Campbell Chevrolet, many other local companies have joined in sponsoring the event, including Team Construction; Keystops; Paul Davis Restoration and Remodeling; Reynolds, Johnson, Hinton and Pepper LLC; Chandler Real Estate and Airgas, Inc.

Three new lessees bound for River’s Edge port

River’s Edge port in Granite City last week signed three new lessees of its facilities, said Tri-City Regional Port District.

Georgia-based Airgas Inc., a distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases, will lease four-acres at the site, said Dennis Wilmsmeyer, general manager of the mixed-use port.

Airgas will begin constructing a distribution facility worth more than $1.5 million in early 2009. The new facility will employ about five people at its new handling facility, Wilmsmeyer said.

Welding career event in Neenah Oct. 9

International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, NM

The International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta wafts into Albuquerque this weekend, as it does every October. Visitors and residents are treated to morning mass ascensions of hundreds of colorful balloons. There are flying competitions, and even special events for gas balloons.
